Ada, Oklahoma -November 12, 2012

Sister Taylor, Elder Woodward, and President Taylor
Hey everyone,

Thanks for all of the letters that you sent.  It took me forever to read them because there were so many.
Well it is my fisrt P-day out in the mission field today.  There has been a lot that has happened. We spent Tuesday night at the mission home.  We all got sent to bed at 8:00 because we were having trouble staying awake.  So that was nice for us.  On Wednesday morning we went to the stake center by the mission home and we all met our trainers.  My trainers name is Elder Fee.  He just hit his nine month mark and I am the second Elder he has trained.  There were a lot of other Elders that came up to me while we were still at that transfer meeting that Elder Fee was the best trainer in the entire mission.  So he has quite the reputation to live up to.

The first area that I am serving in is Ada Oklahoma.  I'm guessing it is about an hour and a half away from OKC.  Yesterday was the 2 week mark of Ada Changing from a Branch to a Ward.  So it is a pretty exciting time to get to be in Ada.  I haven't found anyone who knows our family yet, but there is another Elder in the mission who lives in Smithfield.  So that was pretty exciting.

We have had some pretty good things happen since I've gotten here.  We had a bunch of lessons planned the first 3 days I was here so it was a pretty full schedule.  But Saturday and Sunday were a lot slower so I have had plenty of time to go out tracting.  President Taylor is having us do a different door approach then the normal one you think of when you tink of tracting.  He calls it the Heavenly Gift.    What we do is instead of the normal approach we ask them if we can say a prayer for them and their families.  It works really well around here because of the fact that most people have a strong religious background.  It also gets more people who are willing to hear what we have to say because of the prayer.  So far I have only had one door close before we could say anything, and then one that was slammed.  Oh well we got a really lovely breeze from it.

We taught the parents of a family Thursday night.  Their names were Terry and Vanessa.  We got through the Message of the Restoration with them and left them with a Book of Mormon to read.  Terry seemed really interested with it.  Vanessa was interested in it as well, but I'm not sure how much she will remember because she was drunk when we went over.  But they said that we could come back again.  So that was pretty exciting for me.

OK is a lot like Utah except for the fact that there are no mountains here and its really windy.  It is so flat out here.  Its funny because there is a town close to Ada called Pauls Valley.  I don't see how it can be called a valley.  The weather reminds me of the weather in Utah.  No snow here yet.  There was a pretty big rainstorm here yesterday.  Other then that it has been pretty sunny.

We went to the Hospital on Saturday evening to give a member a blessing.  His family had called from California and asked us to go.  It was a really great thing to do.  When we walked in there was such a strong Spirit in the room.  IT was a really good experience to meet someone that had such a strong faith in Christ.  Especially because of the circumstances that he was in.  He was in the ICU, so it would have been really easy for him to lose his faith but he didn't.

That has been a lot of what has happened while I've been here.  We have a dinner with a ward member every night that I have been here so that was good to be able to save some money.

That is pretty much what has happened with me.  But I am loving it all the same.  Have fun at home but be safe.

Love, Elder Woodward
