Hello Woodward Family,
I'll start by telling you about Elder Fee. He is from Taylorsville
Utah, so he lived somewhat close to us. He has been out for nine
months now. He is a really relaxed guy so we get along pretty well.
I'm not really sure what else you want to know about him. You are going
to have to ask specific questions from now on.
It is great to hear that Thanksgiving went so well for all of you.
It was a little weird not being at home for Thanksgiving, but I got
over it. It was a really slow day for me and my entire internal
calender got thrown way off. It seemed like it was a Sunday so I woke
up on Friday expecting it to be P-day. It started like any other day
until our studies were done. We had been told on Wednesday evening that
we weren't supposed to go out and do tracting and to not try to bother
families on Thanksgiving. So after studies we mostly just sat around.
We did a little bit of cleaning around the apartment. We went over to a
members house for dinner at 2:00. It was a pretty good dinner.
Although it was missing one of the best parts, Grandmas rolls. After we
were done there we went to visit Brandy. I can't remember if I told
you about her yet. But she is a recent convert who was baptized, but
hasn't been confirmed yet. The problem with that was she got baptized
on a Sunday evening so she had to wait another week to be confirmed, but
she relapsed with her smoking during the week. So we had gone to visit
her but she had gotten sick during the day so we didn't get to see her
on Thanksgiving. After that we went back to our apartment because there
wasn't a lot we could do at that point. So we decided to make a trip
to Walmart to buy some board games so we would have something to do that
night. It was super crazy there because of Black Friday stuff. I have
decided that right now Black Friday is stupid. We went back home and
played monopoly the rest of the night. I lost. So yeah that was my
Thanksgiving day. It was pretty exciting.
We had our "New Missionary Meeting" last Tuesday so we got to drive
up to the city for that. I got to see the other missionaries that came
out with me again. It was a pretty fun day besides the fact that we
had to be up at 5:30 to get ready so we could leave on time. I never
thought I would say this but on days like those I enjoy getting to sleep
untill 6:30. So that took up most of the day.
We had a lesson with Christina and Jerry on Tuesday night. We
found them one night that we were out tracting and we have seen them
once a week since we found them. Last week we had two lessons with
them. It was the second lesson that I had been to with them. The first
one Elder Fee wasn't at because we had gone on splits that night, so I
got to lead the disscusion. That was interesting for me, but it was
really good. This lesson we had gone in planning to talk about the Plan
of Salvation, but they hadn't been able to read out of the Book of
Mormon yet so we read 2 Nephi 31 with them (If you don't know what is
about you can read through it for Family Home Evening tonight. Its a
good chapter). But we had read up to verse 12 and them I asked them
both to be baptized. Jerry said that we didn't see why he needed to
because he had already been baptized in another church. I was about to
tell him about how it needed to be done by proper authority when he went
off on some random tangent that Brother Degraw, our member Present, had
brought up. Elder Fee asked Christina if she would be baptized to try
and get us back on track and she said that she would. I was so excited
to hear her say that. She had read a little ahead and wanted to read
verse 13 so Jerry could hear it. After she read it we got a soft I'll
be baptized from Jerry.
The next big thing that happened with Christina was when she came
to church yesterday. We were in our Gospel Princples class and she was
there with us. For some reason the lady who picked her up for church
had asked her where her life was at and if she could see a change in it
from meeting with us. Christina is normally more quiet to when she
answered the question I was really surprised. She told us about how
when we knocked on her door she felt like someone told her she needed to
let us in. I knew exactly who it was that told her to let us in. She
listened to the Spirit and had Jerry let us in. She said she was
surprised that Jerry let us in because he didn't let very many people in
the house, so I am assuming that he felt the same thing that she did.
She went told us about some of the things that she had been going
through. They were personal so I'm not going to share them with you,
butt all you need to know is that she was having a really hard time.
She had told us how whenever we came over after the first night she felt
like God was there with us in the room and how she always looked
forward to us coming over now. Hearing all of this made me realize that
I really am making a difference in people's lives and that there wasn't
a better place that I could be right now.
There were also another two baptismal dates that we got this last
week. Stephanie and Mary. Stephanie had moved up to Ada and called the
church last week. We set up a time to meet with her. It ended up
being on Friday while we were having exchanges. We went to her house
and her and her mom were there. She told Elder Jacobson and I that she
wanted to be baptized within the first 5 minutes that we were there. So
that was another really cool thing that happened. It made me realize
that the Lord can do this work all on his own, but he is allowing us to
help him do it.
Elder Jacobson is my Zone Leader. We went on exchanges Friday, so
that was a really cool thing that happened. I was really nervous for it
at first because I wasn't sure if I would be able to find the places we
would be going that day. I managed to get us around without getting
lost. There were a lot of things that I learned from him in that one
day.
So about my talk. . . It was interesting. This was the second
week that I was supposed to talk but the Bishop forgot both times so he
filled up the entire meeting. I still went up and talked yesterday
because there was some time left over. A couple weeks ago the Bishop
challenged the ward to read the entire Book of Mormon by April 1st. I
didn't talk for very long, but I guess the subject of my talk was
priorities and feasting upon the words of Christ. I felt like it want
pretty well. I was only up for 5 minutes but I managed to do it. And
yes I did write it all by myself. What was even more weird was I didn't
even take what I had wrote down up with me. I did it all without
looking at a paper. You never thoguht that it would happen but it did.
And yes I did have people come up and say I did a great job on it and
getting the point of priorities across.
But that was my week. We have Temple conference this week so that
will bee good. I love you all. Keep helping around the house and don't
be a pain for Mom and Dad all you little ones. Do everything that you
can to help them.
